Favorite Retail Websites

This page will be a collection of links to websites and small businesses that I love. Some will be direct websites (a place that only sells their own products) and some will be websites that sell a whole slew of products from different makers.

NOTE: If there is a link listed on this page then I have owned and purchased for myself, with my own money, at least ONE of their products and have used it for long enough to feel comfortable endorsing it.

I will be updating this page whenever I find more sites to love, as well as editing current entries as things evolve!

*The information here is based on my personal experience and knowledge of things - like shipping to the USA. If you live outside of the US, this information may not be applicable.

Direct Websites

These are all sites that sell only their own products.

  • Rickshaw Bagworks - I ADORE this company. Rickshaw is based in San Francisco, USA and makes many different items out of beautiful materials - imported Japanese cloth, Harris Tweed, and others! They do bags, face masks, and most importantly for me - pen sleeves, pen rolls, and pen coozies! They have so many different kinds of materials and aesthetics to choose from, which is really nice. I have many, many of their pen sleeves, coozies, and even one of their tote bags. I cannot recommend them enough. You get cool stickers with your order and sometimes they’ll include a bonus pen sleeve as a surprise. They have excellent customer service and every product they make is worth the money.

  • Galen Leather - Another amazing company from which I have purchased many items! They are based in Istanbul, Turkey but they ship to the USA directly which is very nice! They sell many high-quality leather products but also wood and brass products as well. They have an extremely classy aesthetic that invokes a nostalgic feeling, or, if you’re like me, makes you feel like Bilbo in his hobbit hole. I own a leather zip portfolio, a slim leather cover, a leather tote bag, a leather a5 size bag, their wood honeycomb pen hold, two 3-pen rests, and their wooden nib-shaped pen rest. Everything is beautiful and made well. Highly recommend!

  • Plotter - The Plotter is a ring binder system that recently became available to the US market. They used to only have a Japanese website but now they have a US one so you can buy from it directly! Plotter is owned by Designphil which is the same company that owns Traveler’s Company and Midori - two other companies I dearly love. They offer multiple different sizes of ring notebooks with different types of refills and accessories for you to essentially make your own perfect combination of a notebook and then CHANGE IT whenever you want! It is amazing and their quality is top notch. I have an a5 size and Bible size in different finishes with multiple refill types and accessories and I just love it all. The paper is extremely smooth and fountain pen friendly!!

  • Hobonichi Techo - Hobonichi is a company that I only became aware of in the last year or so. They sell planner notebooks (currently using Tomoe River 52 gsm paper, TBD for the future) with some different layout options and in different sizes. Their size options include a5, a6, and “weeks” which is a taller, narrower option. They also sell various different covers for these notebooks, in many different designs and materials - and they release new ones each year. They’ve got solid colors, patterns, collabs with popular anime and video game series, classic designs, embroidered designs - I mean, they’ve really got it all! I highly recommend taking a look at their site if you are looking for a new planner. They are a Japanese company but they do ship direct to the USA.

  • Travelers Company USA - As I mentioned earlier, Traveler’s is umbrellaed under Designphil, and I love their products. They offer two sizes of leather covers designed specifically for the ease of traveling with their notebooks. Their covers come in different colors and they have LE cover designs from areas/stores in Japan but also some US LE options as well. Their inserts use Midori paper which is an excellent fountain-pen friendly paper. Once you fill up an insert, you can swap it for a new one. You can choose from blank, lined, grid, and dot paper, plus some other “fun” inserts that do different things. They sell brass charms and some other odds and ends for spicing up your personal notebook. They get a lovely patina over time, as well. There is a Traveler’s Company Japan only site, but they have added a USA site for ease of shopping and shipping to the US (similar to Plotter’s new US site).

Stationery Stores

This section is for either combo brick & mortar/online, or entirely online, stationery stores that I love. They offer a large selection of different stationery & pen & ink items from many different brands.

  • Yoseka Stationery - Yoseka is my ride or die stationery store. Located in New York, it is run by Taiwanese immigrants who wanted to bring Asian stationery to the US and they are truly just the loveliest people. Every order from Yoseka is packaged with care and personalized, and their whole aesthetic is beautiful. They have curated amazing products and amazing staff members and their passion for creativity and stationery is so obvious. It makes me happy just to think about. They have so many fun and unique products - many of which are imported from various Asian countries or from local producers they want to support. I highly recommend perusing their site and then also buying everything from them. I hope to one day be able to visit their physical store!

  • JetPens - JetPens is an online-only store that operates out of a warehouse in San Jose, California. They have an INSANE amount of stationery products to choose from. Truly one of the best “one stop shops” out there if you need paper, pens, ink, washi, stickers, cases, bags, organization tools - I mean, the list goes on. Many of their products also come from Asian brands, and I love it.

  • Tokyo Pen Shop - Tokyo Pen Shop specializes specifically in making Japanese Stationery goods more accessible to those outside of Japan. They ship out of Iowa and their inventory is just different enough to make their shop stand out among others doing similar things. If you’re looking for that Japan-specific set of Mildliners or want some Pokemon washi - this is gonna be your place!

Japanese Sites

These websites are all Japanese stores that do special fountain pen and/or stationery collabs with some of my favorite brands (like Sailor and Pilot).

  • Pentonote - This website sells LE Store-specific Sailor Fountain Pens as well as some other store-specific items, and then also general stationery/fountain pen/ink items. For anyone outside of Japan, you probably want to focus only on the store-specific collabs they do - for example, the light green Mt. Shinobu Sailor Realo or the Letters from Fukushima Shineha Akari Sailor Realo.

    • You will need to use a proxy to buy from them, as they do not ship directly to the USA, but they do offer Worldshopping as an option right on their website so it’s sort of built in.

  • Shosaikan Pen Shop - This shop sells a bunch of brands of fountain pens, but for anyone not in Japan, you probably want to focus on any store-specific LE fountain pen collabs - for example, the Pilot Custom 823 Shosaikan anniversary pen.

    • You will need to use a proxy (like White Rabbit or someone you know in Japan) to buy from this shop. They do not ship to USA.

  • Hachimonjiya - Another stationery/fountain pen/glass pen shop in Japan, but very well-known for their coveted Sailor Pro Gears - Kurage Aquarium (Jellyfish), Kubozakura, Ginzan Snow Gray, Rime Tree Amethyst.

    • You will need to use a proxy (like White Rabbit or someone you know in Japan) to buy from this shop. They do not ship to USA.

  • Bungubox - A very popular shop for many different small batch Sailor Fountain Pens in almost all models of Sailor (PGS, PGS mini, PG, PG mini, Realo, 1911), as well as much sought-after Sailor-produced inks. For example - the Supernova Realo, the Zodiac minis, and their 10th Anniversary Mikkaibii Mandarin Orange pens, and inks like Sweet Potato Purple, Ink of Witch, and Clown Tears.

    • This shop does ship directly to the USA so it is the most cost effective way to get an LE Sailor from a Japanese shop.

  • Ancora - A newer Japanese stationery shop that is known for it’s Sailor Birthstone PGS minis and maki-e converters.

    • You will need to use a proxy (like White Rabbit or someone you know in Japan) to buy from this shop. They do not ship to USA.

  • Nagasawa - Another stationery/fountain pen shop that sells many different items but also has Sailor LE collabs like the Nagasawa Rosa Mini (Sailor PGS mini) and the Chaska Blue Silver.

    • You will need to use a proxy (like White Rabbit or someone you know in Japan) to buy from this shop. They do not ship to USA.

  • PenPoint - They sell many iterations of Sailor LE collabs like the Sailor PG Cosmos, the Melon Soda PG, the Spring Kasumi Realo, and the Coral Reef PG.

    • You will need to use a proxy (like White Rabbit or someone you know in Japan) to buy from this shop. They do not ship to USA.

  • Kingdom Note - They sell a bunch of stuff and many different brands of fountain pens, both new and used, but they are very well-known for their collections of Sailor PG minis like their Sea Slug collection and their most recent bird collection.

    • You will need to use a proxy (like White Rabbit or someone you know in Japan) to buy from this shop. They do not ship to USA.
